Hey all,
I have a strange issue, I was issued two dog by a dog school, then I gave the dogs up for different issues that the school didn't want to help me fix, the school then got mad, and said that they didn't want to work with me anymore, so I applied to other schools, the problem is that the dog school that I got my first two dogs from won't send there refferances to any dog schools that they know might give me a dog, they sent it to one dog school, but they new that sending it there would get me turned down, what should I do? I can't prove that I had the issues I did with either of the dogs, I do have friends that could tell you that this really did happen, but that's it.
Thanks for reading and helping.
Mariea

Can you find other refferences to do your letters for you?

Then maybe you wouldn't have to even get the school that you got your other dogs from involved.

Well most schools, if not all need references from prior schools. And they demand personal references too. So no matter who does the references they will check out all. So having someone else do references won’t help. The prior guide dog schools references are needed and looked at highly, the prior schools have higher pull then the personal ones. Without the prior school references most other schools won’t allow you to attend classes. I had this problem when my prior school took their time doing my reference, my school pushed my entrance back till after they received the paperwork. So I am not sure how you can get around this problem.

Good Luck Maria! I only went to one guide dog school it was some where in Florida! They did there stuff by phone! They talked to me! Then they called and sent paper work to my friends! My doctor had to sign a paper! I'm just glad to have my guinea pig Emma and my regular dog who was abused by her former owners! I didn't get my guide dog caus I'm not good with a cane! I got my British roomate Claire to try to find out what happened to Georgia! She said she'd go to a lady who dog had died! When I pressed for more info Claire refused to talk! When I'm bored I teach Daisy some of the stuff I learned there! Your friend, Hope

The sschool was pilot dog, the school I applied to was Guide Dogs For The Blind, after that the school wouldn't send anymore schools a refferance letter.

well, it's nice to see Pilot is keeping up with there good image! Are you trying to get in to a school as a retrain? Some schools will let you get in a retrain class if you've had a dog before. If not you might trying explaining what your problem is to the school your applying to. Just saying the words "Pilot dogs" should do the trick".

Flute I went to that school in Florida! Any way good luck Shawn and Maria! So Pilot isn't any good! That is what it sounds like to me!

Maybe try explaining the whole situation to the school that you are trying to apply to. Pilot dogs seems to have gotten terrible. I went there and got my first guide dog in 96. My personal experience was great. I got an exceptional dog, but from what I've been hearing lately, it sounds like they've completely gone down hill. That's too bad. When I went, they really were a good school. I think a lot of it is the trainers and staff they have working there now. It's a shame.

Yes I agree with the post befor mine. Talk to the school you wish to attend. Second get letters from other people to state your worthyness and your doctor as well. If all else fails Appeal to the association of dog schools or trainers. I don't know the proper name, but all schools should be governed. Also if I can be of more help please send me a note. I'm sure there are ways to handle your situation, just needs researching. Also I don't know the exact problem you had with the dogs, so I'd need to know that as well.

In reference to Gemini's post, your experience seems to be similar to others who went to Pilot. Someone who was in class at the seeing eye with me got her first two dogs from Pilot, and they were great dogs. She said she chose seeing eye over pilot for the third dog because of Pilot's major decline over the past few years.

And refering to the original poster, I'd talk to the school that you're applying to, explain the situation (including the issues that made you choose to give the previous dogs up). Maybe they can bend the rules a bit or put pressure on Pilot to provide a reference or a report of your training there...

Pilot/ Oh good lord, don't get me started. Try The Seeing Eye or Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation. You should have a well-thought-out explination of your problem, and you should send an extremely well-written proof-read letter to any schools you apply to explaining your situation in great detail. Don't be afraid to be worty, it can only help. And, yeah, could you tell us what your spacific problems were? It would help us to help you, and I'd like to know, just for my own information about people's experiences with Pilot.
